NELLIE AGATHA ANDERSON was torn in Lapland in the Parish of St James, Jamaica to Wilhelmina and Devon Smith. She was youngest of three children. As a young girl, Nellie enjoyed reading and math, and spending time with her Dad.

NELLIE attended the University of the West Indies and Mico Teacher’s College. After graduating, she took a teaching post at Rollington Town Primary School in Jamaica, where she demonstrated her leadership skills by establishing certain key initiatives such as a savings plan for the children, and a school magazine. Rollington was also where she met the love of her life, Roy Anderson. The two married in 1977and from this union two children were born, Davian and Monique Anderson.

In 1983, NELLIE and Roy migrated to the United States and took up residence in Brooklyn, NY. In the early years, Nellie worked as a banker. In 1989, she joined the staff of the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation ("CNR"), where she worked for 25 years in various capacities. After receiving her Masters of Social Work from Adelphi University in 2008, NELLIE assumed the position of Director, Lowenstein Adult Day Care Center, a position she retained until her retirement in 2015.

NELLIE accepted the Lord, Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age and was baptized at age 15. For the last 40 years, she's been a member of New Life In Christ Church, holding various leadership positions in Women’s Ministry.

It was NELLIE'S “faith and love” for God and her fellow man that most defined her character. Whether she experienced good times or trials, Nellie never stopped praising the Lord. She leaves behind a strong legacy of caring, kindness and compassion for the brethren and strangers alike. NELLIE had a passion for helping others and was always ready with a word of encouragement and support no matter the circumstance. This was who she was—this was how she lived until the day she took her "Golden Passport to Heaven” and headed to her eternal home.
