On Monday, October 22, 2018, our beloved
Joan B. Preston departed this life
at Mount Sinai Hospital in Queens, New York.
Joan was born on May 10, 1936 to (the late) Margaret E. Best and Mitchell A. Storey in Brooklyn, New York. Joan attended Girls High School in Brooklyn, and worked various secretarial jobs.
Upon meeting Cleveland Preston in early 1956, they were soon married in July of 1956. Joan remained in New York until the passing of her mother.
In January of 1957, she relocated to England to be with her husband in the Air Force, and later transferred to Germany where they remained until 1964. Four years later in 1968, she returned to New York where she started a career with the New York City Police Department as a Staff Analyst until her retirement in 2008.
Joan enjoyed sewing, reading, shopping, socializing with her friends, and working at the NYPD. She was highly skilled in computer technology, and had a sharp memory.
Joan has peacefully joined loved ones who preceded her in death, including both her parents, three sisters: Roberta Syville, Helen Hudson and Jacqueline Matthews; three brothers: Johnny Hazel, James Hazel and Anthony Hazel; and three uncles: Edwin Best, Reginald Best and Herschel Best.
Joan leaves to cherish her memories, her sisters: Joanna Hazel-Kidd, Louise Hazel-Quinlan and Shirley Storey; her brothers: Gilbert Anderson, Lonnie Best and William Hazel; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
