Edmond Newton Nurse, a.k.a. “Scrapper Lloyd”, was born November 20, 1944 and passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2018. He was born in Trinidad and Tobago, the town of Belmont, to (the late) Samuel Nurse and Sybil Wilson Nurse.
His educational accomplishments were many. As a graduate of Bronx Community College, he went on to further his education, attending Pratt Institute where he earned his Bachelor of Engineering degree. He then attended Brooklyn College for his Master's degree. He received numerous certificates and awards which spoke to his level of commitment to his students. For several years, he worked at Young Adult Learning Academy (Y.A.L.A.) until retirement. There, Edmond gave 100% to all the students who were fortunate enough to cross his path and come under his tutelage. In short, he was an educator, teacher, tutor to many, and he loved education and learning, which is something he encouraged and stressed to countless youngsters.
Anyone who knew Edmond knew he was a man who loved Trinidad; he was truly a "Trini to da bone". He loved Carnival, he loved “playing mas” and “making mas”; he loved the Caribbean Sea, he loved Sudoku and he loved his family.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Bunny (Melvina Beatrice Watson); his son Orion; his sister Winifred; five grandchildren: Audra, Fiona, Micah, Jonah and Judah; as well as countless cousins and long-time friends.
Edmond was a man who was loved beyond measure, and will be dearly and deeply missed.
