Dr. Cynthia Furrs-Gilmore was born on January 1, 1960 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Bishop Wallace and Geraldine Furrs. She departed this life on Saturday, August 3, 2019.
Dr. Gilmore attended the New York Public School System. She graduated from William H. Maxwell High School and then attended and graduated from Brooklyn College. L.I. University and N.Y. University, in New York.
Dr. Gilmore was a retired educator for the New York City School system. She also worked for the NYC Administration for Children Services as a facilitator and trainer.
Among some of her major accomplishments along with being a beautiful woman, she was a daughter, wife and mother. She was also a successful musician, entrepreneur and author. She held degrees in Education, Religious Education, Theology and a Doctorate in Divinity.
Around 2001 Cynthia stopped working in the Public School system to follow the wisdom and vision of her father which was to open up a Christian Academy. Along with the help and support of her late father, Bishop Wallace Furrs, she started from the ground up to open the America Come Back to God Christian Academy, a Day Care Center, Elementary and Junior High School. After opening the Academy and with over fourteen years of successfully running the Academy, Cynthia was able to fulfill the educational and social needs of hundreds of students.
Cynthia was the only child of Geraldine Furrs and the late Bishop Wallace Furrs. She was a devoted Christian and a faithful member and officer of the America Come Back to God Evangelistic Church, Inc. She was also one of the Master Teachers in the America Come Back To God Bible Institute.
She was preceded in death by her father, the late Bishop Wallace Furrs.
She leaves behind in body but not in spirit her mother, Geraldine Furrs, husband and partner of twenty-five years Lamar Gilmore; two daughters: Lamar-Renee R. Brown and Cynmar Autumn Gilmore; two grandchildren: Kelub and Jordin Brown; one mother in law Elva Gilmore; three sister in laws: Sandra Hood, Yolanda Campbell and Quanda Gilmore; two brother in laws: Larry and Daryl Gilmore; three god-sisters: Sharon Gamble, Tiffany Walker, Dr. Fay Singleton; three god-brothers: Nekia Morgan, Toboias Morgan and Min. Sidney McNeill; two uncles: Carl Hendrix and Elder Ulysses Furr; four aunts: Ella Mae McClain (Willie McClain), Bernice Wilcox, Melinda Furs, and Shirley Furr; and a host of close family and friends. Cynthia will be greatly missed by all who knew her along with her numerous family members and friends. May she finally rest in peace.
