Clarence "Doug" Douglas Elder

April 2, 1942 ~ April 1, 2018 (age 75)

Clarence Douglas Elder was born April 2, 1942 in Lumberport, West Virginia to the late Clark Edward Elder & Ruth Juanita Wilson Elder. On Sunday, April 1, 2018, the Lord welcomed him home.

Doug, as he was affectionately known, was 1 of 12 children. Nine siblings preceded him in death (Don Edward Elder, Paul Edward Elder, Clark Elder, Zerah Webber, Charlie Sherrod, Edna Cox, Ruth Gillespie, Frederick Lee Elder, & Joseph Clifford Elder). He attended Kelly Miller High School in Clarksburg, West Virginia. As a child Doug enjoyed playing baseball with his brother Fred and together they joined a little league baseball team.

Once Doug moved to New York, he worked several jobs. He worked in The Garment District, as well as Burns Security. He also owned a bar and brought on his brother Fred as DJ. Later on, Doug would follow in his sibling's footsteps and join The New York Telephone Company now known as Verizon. He began working in the mail room in April 1968. Never one to settle, Doug worked his way up to man¬ager and retired in April 1994.

Retirement life brought new beginnings for Doug. He joined the Mariner Tri-State Limousine, Inc team as a limousine driver. He also briefly joined the Uber Team, where he earned a 5-star rating! Doug definitely knew how to play as well as work. He had a great love for animals, especially horses. In the early 1990s, Doug a.k.a. "The Original Cobblestone Cowboy", owned Double D Stables, located in the Kensington section of Brooklyn, NY. In 1999, he joined the Fed¬eration of Black Cowboys. Doug and his horse Little Jack brought joy and happiness to people young and old. He loved to travel, espe¬cially by cruise ship.
