Obituary

“ . . . I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in me

though he were dead, yet shall he live:”   ~ St. John 11:25

This is indeed a sad day for all of us.  Losing a loved one, especially a young adult, is one of the most difficult things we can go through.  No words can express what we feel right now, and I’m sure only time can help us accept the fact that we have lost such a wonderful person.

Christon St. Vincent Jarrett, affectionately known as “Cee Jay”, was born on July 17, 2001 to Paulette Williams Marshall and Dudley Wellesley Jarrett.  Cee Jay was the last child, and had one brother Christopher and one sister Christina.  He was loved by his family, and his stepfather Tyrone Marshall cared deeply for him.

Cee Jay was an early starter, so at age three, he attended kindergarten and later middle school before migrating with his parents from Jamaica to the United States. He attended Beckford High School and Olympic High School in Brooklyn. He was a good student, and liked to participate in sporting activities.  He had ambitions to become an entrepreneur with his own retail sneaker store.

Cee Jay was an active fellow who enjoyed playing basketball in the nearby parks.  He grew so fond of basketball that when he would watch the NBA games, everyone nearby knew when the games were on, as you could hear his cheers and excitement.  He was also able to convince his Mom to watch the games with him, and that was one of their special “Mommy and me” times.

Cee Jay was an avid eater; Kentucky Fried Chicken was among his favorites -- a habit he picked up when he was living in Jamaica.  His father would take him to KFC every Friday when he visited Cee Jay.  When Cee Jay passed through the kitchen, it was noticeable, especially when his stepfather prepared the special Sunday dinner.

Christon knew God and was convicted of His love.  He attended church with his mother; this is where he learned and embraced God’s sustaining love for us.

On December 7, 2019, tragedy struck when Cee Jay was injured and was in the hospital where he battled and fought for his life.  On Sunday, January 5, 2020, he took his last breath and departed from us.  His life was cut short at age eighteen.  He was robbed of the opportunity to realize his life’s dreams … robbed of the chance to share his love with his parents and contribute to his community.  Cee Jay leaves to cherish his precious memory, his beloved mother, stepfather, brother, sister, aunts, uncles, grandparents and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Cee Jay may have left lots of things undone and others that he never got the chance to start, but we are thankful for everything that he did and the role he played in our lives, and the special moments he spent with us.  May he continue to live in our hearts and minds.  We love you Cee Jay!
