Yvonne Elizabeth Charles

March 31, 1950 ~ January 22, 2018 (age 67)

Yvonne Elizabeth Charles was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad on the 31st of March 1950.  She was the fifth in a large family of fourteen siblings -- four sisters and nine brothers.  She was the daughter of the now-deceased Daniel Isaac and Elma Charles. They all grew up in Mon Repos Morvant, Trinidad, West Indies.  Yvonne was dearly loved by all the family, and was loving and caring to all of her siblings.  She knew the date, time and birth of each of her siblings, and in their adult years, they often called on her to furnish them with such information.

Yvonne attended Morvant Anglican School in her primary years.  At the age of sixteen, she won a netball scholarship to attend Progressive Secondary School where she completed her secondary education.  Following on, she took a course in catering, and gained certificates in culinary skills and food hygiene.  She then worked at Myerson Company Limited where she gained skill in dental manufacturing.

During her youthful years she gave birth to three beautiful daughters.  In 1981, she migrated to the United States of America in the search of a better life for herself and her children.  Upon arrival to the United States, she worked as a Home Health Aide.  Then along the way, she gave birth to a handsome son.  She then worked at Independent Living Association where she cared for low-level mentally-challenged individuals.

Yvonne was struck down by a mystery illness, and over the years, her physical health gradually deteriorated, causing her great pain and suffering. However, even in her compromised physical condition, she remained very articulate, never losing her mental agility, sense of humor and sense of style.

On Monday, January 22nd, 2018 at 2:55 a.m., God saw that she was tired of the pain and suffering, and called her home to rest at the age of sixty-seven.  She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory, four children: Rhonda, Rachel, Arleen and Richard; two grandchildren: Yvanna and Dariel; three great-grandchildren: Jeremiah, Jahmir and Jumol, Jr.  She also leaves twelve siblings: Louise, Bernice, Amos, Victor, Fitzroy, Judy, Lenox, Ancil, Arnold, Cassandra, Ian and Nigel; and a host of other relatives and friends.  Special mention goes to all of her personal care attendants, especially those who were with her in her last days: Ms. Yolanda, Ms. Annmarie, Ms. Dolou and Ms. Joann.

From Yvonne, these are the words she would utter to us all:

“Don't grieve for me; from pain I'm free. I'm following the path God has laid, you see.
I took His hand when I heard Him call; I turned around and left it all.
If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joys.
A family shared, a laugh, a kiss; oh yes, these things I too will miss”. {Anonymous}
