Ruthia LacyMarch 28, 1919 ~ December 7, 2017 (age 98)
Ruthia Lacy, the eldest of seven children, was born on March 28, 1919 to (the late) Ambrose McMillan and Viola Halyard McMillan in Bamberg, South Carolina.
In 1931, Ruthia migrated with her family to Brooklyn, New York where they joined Bethany Baptist Church. She was appointed to the Deaconess Board where she served for many years.
Ruthia received her formal education through the New York City public school system. Upon graduation from high school, she became a dressmaker/designer.
On November 7, 1942, Ruthia was united in holy matrimony to (the late) William Denson, and their union was blessed with four daughters.
In 1960, Ruthia left the dressmaking industry to open her heart and home to foster children. In 1970, she became employed at Sheltering Arms Children and Family Services, Inc. until she retired. In June 1986, Ruthia was joined in matrimony to (the late) Arnell Lacy who adored and loved her children and grandchildren.
Early Thursday morning, December, 7, 2017, the Lord called Ruthia home at the age of ninety-eight to join her parents, her husbands, two brothers: Luther and Ambrose; and four sisters: Catherine, Bernice, Cassandra and Helen. She leaves to cherish her memories, her four daughters: Theresa, Juliette, Adele and Denise; two sons-in-law: Levi, Sr. and Eugene, Sr.; fifteen grandchildren: David, Stacey (and her husband Wes), Scott (and his wife Chanon), Maya, Adrienne (and her husband Daryl), Levi, Jr. (and his wife Tasha), Jennifer, Eugene, Jr. (and his wife Teyneil), Dennis (and his wife Michelle), Husia, Menes, Kofi, Gamba, Nia and Afi; and a host of great-grands, great-great-grands, nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends – most of whom she’s outlived.
