Nathan "Nate" J. Cummings

August 1, 1989 ~ March 31, 2018 (age 28)

Nathan J. Cummings, affectionately known as “Nate,” son of Vivienne Veronica Rodgers, unexpectedly passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the age of twenty-eight.

Nate was born on August 1st, 1989 in Brooklyn, New York.  He attended Ditmas Junior High School from which he graduated, and continued on to New Utrecht High School.

Nate had a natural love for animals.  He trained and cared for many dogs, cats, turtles and fish during his lifetime.  He loved them so much that he continuously volunteered at the A.S.P.C.A. to care for animals, and wanted the experience so he could one day become a veterinarian.

Cooking was another activity which Nate loved.  Growing up, we called him “Fat Boy” since he was known for always quickly whipping up something tasteful.  Nate was very adventurous and open to trying diverse restaurants throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan.  His love for food led him to obtain jobs working in various restaurants.  He was a hard worker and a very personable young man who would take on extra shifts when called upon.

Music was in Nate’s soul.  He always knew what type of song to play to lighten the mood, and boy oh boy, did he love to dance!  He was always full of life and laughter; he was a generous and kind-hearted person who would not hesitate to offer support to anyone in need.  He gave great advice, and was a support system to family and friends. Nate wasn’t a biological father, but loved children dearly.  He had a great impact on kids he came in contact with, and sometimes was a big kid himself while watching Saturday morning cartoons with his nieces and nephews.  Nate was a fixer-upper, always ready to fix what he could, and was pretty good at figuring things out.

Nate was very popular in the neighborhood and will be deeply missed by his family and friends as well as all who knew him.

He is survived by his mother Vivienne; his grandmother “Mama”; his sisters: Linda and Princess; nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, godchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

May his soul rest in peace!
